A door that is half an inch too big will not close, and a door that is half an inch too small leaves a gap that lets in dust, light and noise. Most of these problems start with a rushed measurement. This guide shows how we measure doors at our shop in Old Haji Camp Timber Market, so you can send us sizes you can trust.
Measure in inches. Door sizes in Pakistan are quoted in inches for width and in feet or inches for height, and our price estimator works in inches.
If a frame (chaukhat) is already fixed in the wall, measure the clear opening inside the frame, where the door will sit. Do not copy the size of an old door. Old doors are often planed down over the years, and the frame may have moved slightly since it was installed.
If no frame is installed yet, measure the wall opening and tell us that it is a wall opening. The final door size then depends on the frame thickness you choose.
Write down all three numbers and use the smallest one. Walls are rarely perfectly straight, and the door has to pass through the narrowest point.
Measure from the finished floor to the top of the opening on the left side, in the middle, and on the right side. Again, use the smallest number.
If tiles or marble are not laid yet, the floor will rise. Tell us the expected finished floor level, or measure after the flooring is done.
Measure the two diagonals, from the top-left corner to the bottom-right, and from the top-right to the bottom-left. If the two numbers differ by more than about half an inch, the frame is out of square. Mention this when you order so the door can be adjusted at fitting time.
Write the location next to each size, for example "Bedroom 1 — 33 × 84" or "Main gate — pair, 60 × 96". A house usually has several sizes, and labels prevent mix-ups on delivery day.
Our price estimator rounds each size up to the nearest standard size, because doors are made from standard sheets and frames:
For example, a 32-inch opening is priced as a 33-inch door, and an 80-inch height is priced as 84 inches. Sizes larger than 48 inches wide or 108 inches high are priced at their actual size.
As a rough guide, bathroom doors are often between 24 and 30 inches wide, bedroom doors between 30 and 36 inches, and main entrance doors 36 inches or wider. Your building may be different, which is why measuring matters more than any chart.
For a wide opening with two door leaves, measure the full opening width. Each leaf is roughly half of that width. In our estimator, select Pair and enter the full width; it calculates both leaves for you.
Once you have your sizes, enter them in the door price estimator. You can add every door in your house, see the total, and send the list to us on WhatsApp. If you are unsure about any measurement, contact us and we will guide you.
There is no single standard, but common heights are 7 feet (84 inches) and 8 feet (96 inches). Common widths for rooms are 30 to 36 inches. Our estimator uses widths from 24 to 48 inches in 3-inch steps.
Measure the opening inside the frame. Old doors are often trimmed over time, so their size can be misleading.
Sizes are rounded up to the next standard width, so a 32-inch opening is priced as a 33-inch door.
